Getting fit should not be trumping getting Insured this Winter Season

According to recent research by Aviva, many winter sports enthusiasts who will be heading abroad to indulge their passion, are investing more attention on getting fit, rather than getting adequate travel insurance.

The research has shown that 6/10 new skiers and snowboarders will increase their exercise regime to prepare for their active holiday. However, only 4/10 has an adequate winter sports travel insurance policy.

On a more positive note, the study also found that more experienced winter sports enthusiasts are more aware of how vital travel insurance is.

However, it seems that despite more advertising and warnings from the FCO and ABTA every year, people who travel abroad to indulge in winter sports still do not understand the importance of specialist travel insurance.

In fact, the investigation found that nearly 40% of all the people surveyed had not arranged travel insurance for their trip. A quarter of these said they would not be purchasing insurance, and a further 17% said they had not yet decided whether to purchase cover.

This news is extremely worrying, as more and more people are hitting the slopes every year, and accidentrs are on the rise. In fact, research from ABTA has shown that 6/10 people who are injured on the slopes, are seriously injured – for example muscle tears or broken bones. This risk is further increased if you do not wear a helmet.
