Grand children are not being protected abroad

When most people think about their grandparents, they remember fun outings and trips to castles or the sea side. Now grandparents are getting younger and are taking their grandchildren on more frequent and longer holidays to give parents a break and to spend some quality time with them.

However, a recent study by RIAS has found that over ¼ of grandparents do not invest in tavel insurance when they take their grandchildren on holiday.

The survey found that nearly 30% of grandparents did not bother or were not planning on getting travel insurance to protect themselves and their grandchildren whilst on holiday this year. Considering the fact that nearly 60% said their grandchildren’s safety abroad was their number one priority, grandparents are overlooking a vital protection.

The study also found that Grandparents are becoming bolder with their holiday destination choices. Usually most grandparents only venture as far as UK or European breaks with the grandkids, but recently nearly 30% were planning on travelling to North America, 14% to Asia and 10% to Africa.

If you are planning a trip with children this year, make sure you invest in adequate travel insurance. Without travel insurance you leave yourself vulnerable to potentially colossal bills if you need medical treatment abroad, or if your possessions or travel documents become lost or damaged.
