If you’re planning a trip to the US and Canada, then Niagara Falls should definitely be on your list of must see attractions. Niagara Falls is actually the collective name for three waterfalls, called Horseshoe Falls, the American Falls and the Bridal Veil Falls.
Due to the location of the waterfalls, there are two options available for Niagara Falls travellers; they can choose to visit the Falls in New York or in neighbouring Ontario. According to official visit statistics, the Canadian side of the Falls is actually the most popular, with around 12 million annual visitors, whereas the American side receives just half of those visitors every year.
Canada has poured money, development and time into the Canadian side of the Falls to make sure they can lure visitors with their fantastic views, great restaurants, night life, hotels and much more. However, the US maintains that visitors prefer the more natural experience their side offers, and the chance to get really close up to the Falls.
Therefore, it would seem that your visit to Niagara Falls really depends on the experience you want to have. If you want your trip to be entirely focussed on the Falls, getting really close to the water, then the US side is probably best for you. However, if you’re looking for the best views and more to do, then head to the Canadian side.
Alternatively you could cross the border and visit both sides, to experience everything the Falls has to offer (you will need your passport!). Furthermore, if you’re looking for a slightly different Niagara experience, then avoid the peak summer tourist season, and head over in Winter to see the Falls in all their frozen winter glory. Please note, Holidaysafe's online prices automatically include a 15% discount against our Customer Service Centre prices.
