Retired Couple Travel 20,000 Miles on Epic Adventure

Retired couple Paula and Michael Webster are tearing down ‘senior’ stereotypes by spending their new found freedom travelling the World. Paula, aged 63, a former Head of Maths, and her husband Michael, age 65, a former research and development worker, are currently thousands of miles away from their Leicester home travelling South America in a 4×4 Toyota Hilux.

They began their trip two years ago, usually travelling for around four to eight months at a time before returning home for a quick visit, then straight back out to continue their adventure. So far they have covered over 20,000 miles, mainly in their 4×4, and travelled to parts of Argentine, Chile and Peru.

The couple were bitten by the travel bug long before they retried, and actually arranged a backpacking trip to Iran during their time at university together, spending two months on the shores of the Caspian Sea.

This passion for travel has continued their entire lives alongside their interest in wildlife, and so, when the couple decided to take early retirement, South America seemed like an obvious choice. The continent offers 12 countries to explore, not to mention the world’s largest tropical rainforest, and more flora and fauna than anywhere else on Earth, making it the perfect place for an adventure.
