The First Ever Tour De Yorkshire
An exciting new event has recently been added to the international cycling calendar; The Tour De Yorkshire.
This May, the first ever Tour De Yorkshire is set to take place, creating a new and exciting British cycling event, which will exhibit the beauty of Yorkshire. The three stage race will cover more than 500 miles over three days from 1st-3rd May 2015.
The first stage of the race will start in the seaside town of Bridlington, and will finish 174km later in Scarborough. This preliminary journey will take riders through the beautiful North York Moors, and past breath-taking coastal views.
The second day will see riders depart from impressive Selby Abbey, and travel into the heart of York. On this day, there will also be a dedicated women’s cycling event through York, to try to encourage more women to take up the sport.
On the third and final stage, riders will pay homage to the Tour De France by travelling part of the Grand Départ route. Starting in Wakefield riders will travel to Holmfirth, to follow the Grand Départ route in reverse, racing along the country’s longest continual decent. After riding through cobbled streets and up steep climbs, the race will finish in Leeds.
The event will not only encompass a professional male and female race, but also a mass participation sportive for amateur cyclists on the third day. The three day spectacular will be televised around the world, but spectators are also encouraged and invited to visit Yorkshire and watch the race for free from the side lines.
