Australia is the perfect winter destination for anyone willing to undergo a long haul flight. Great weather teamed with an endless list of activities and sights to see make this a firm favourite amongst winter destinations – not to mention the amazing New Year’s celebrations in Sydney.

Famous for its beautiful pink sandy beaches, Bermuda offers a taste of the Caribbean with a shorter flight time. The island is best visited between October–March, and make sure you explore as many beaches as possible, including Horseshoe Bay and Warwick Long Bay.

One of the sunniest US States, California offers winter sun plus fantastic road trip opportunities. Hire a car and drive along the Pacific Coast road, which should give you amazing views of San Francisco and much more.

Canary Islands

With year round sunshine and temperatures in the mid to low 20s, the Canary islands are just waiting to be explored. Consider the well-known islands of Lanzarote and Tenerife, or choose the lesser known islands of La Palma or El Hierro for a real adventure.

Just a short plane journey from the UK, Cyprus offers great winter sun without leaving Europe. Although the sea will be chilly the weather should be warm, and wild flowers will be in full bloom. Plus, by travelling outside of peak season you won’t have to deal with thousands of tourists.

Are you looking for a winter break with a difference? Then Iceland is the place for you. Not only can you explore Reykjavik in the snow and feel really ‘Christmassy’, you can also visit the Blue Lagoon or search for the Northern Lights to tick something off your bucket list.

Mexico offers a brilliant mix of culture, beaches and sun to create a destination fit for any Autumn/Winter traveller. Check out the Atlantic Coast if you are planning a trip between November–March, or the Pacific Coast of you are travelling between December-April.

Sri Lanka has really emerged as a top winter destination over the last few yearss, with many travellers recommending the beautiful beaches near Colombo and Galle. For a real taste of culture make sure you visit tea plantations and miles of green rice paddies.

Snowy landscapes, foggy lakes, and the crunch of frost under your boot will give you a real feel of winter (away from the rainy UK). Head to the mountains for fantastic winter sports opportunities, just remember to wrap up really warm!
