Top 2015 Summer Destinations

With summer just around the corner, we wouldn’t blame you if you were thinking about getting away. The advertisements for sunshine breaks and budget deals are beginning to filter onto our TV screens and filling us with that familiar feeling of wanting to escape. But where is there to go?

If you’re still looking for holiday inspiration, we’ve listed our top destinations for summer 2015 based on the type of holiday you might be looking for…

European Sun: Majorca

Majorca offers travellers the perfect break from the dreary UK, with great all-inclusive prices. The island has one of the best coastlines in Spain, with its ravishing sunny beaches which prove to be a haven for families, couples and friends searching for a day soaking in the sun, and hidden coves which make a day at the beach more of an adventure.

Head to Alcudia if you want to combine a sunshine break with activities such as cycling along the coastline, or exploring the quaint Old Town. For those searching for a little more local culture, head to Sineu for the huge weekly market, Cala d’Or with its ever-popular Jazz festival, or the cities of Inca or Manacor for famous for their local crafts and goods.

Adventure: Namibia

The breath-taking Coastal Desert has just been awarded UNESCO World Heritage Site status, making it a must-visit for travellers all around the world. A desert which sweeps to the Atlantic Ocean, this 75-million year-old desert offers some of the best natural views you will ever see. Visit at night and you’ll be treated to a sky dusted with stars.

The country has also got a Gift of the Earth Award from the World Wildlife Fund, recognising the country’s efforts to maintaining wildlife and conservation-friendly safari destinations. You can visit the Africat Foundation, which strives to protect Namibia’s cheetah’s wild dogs, lions and leopards in their natural environment, or Desert Rhino Camp, run by Wilderness Safaris in partnership with the Save the Rhino Trust.

Family: Charente-Maritime, France

Voted by mums as one of the best destinations to take families, especially those with kids, Charente-Maritime in France offers the best all-round holiday. With great food, drink and places to visit, this region has something for every member of the family.

This part of France has a rich and diverse history, but is also steeped in traditional French culture. The food produced here is famous (especially the oysters, but you should also try the wine, meat, local produce and butter). The coast isn’t far from most points, giving everyone an excuse to enjoy a ‘beach day’ and making the most of the beautiful scenery.

Vieux Port in La Rochelle is one of the most picturesque places to visit. There’s a striking contrast between old and new here, but the historic significance and Mediterranean feel to the harbour and surrounding streets make this one for your to-do list. There’s plenty of boat trips for the family, and even a huge aquarium within easy walking distance of the harbour.

World Wide Sun: Hawaii

Although the sun, sand and laidback attitude of the locals is enough to tempt us to Hawaii this summer, there’s more to this incredible group of islands.

You have the chance to surf and sunbathe on isolated white sand beaches, with sapphire blue seas and soak in the rays, but you can also explore the islands. Notably, Kilauea is one of the world’s most active erupting volcanoes, and its current eruption, which has lasted since 1983 is a fantastic scene to see during your time on the island. Watch the orange glow of the flowing lava or take a scenic flight over the hot magma and steam.

Activity: Burma

Growing in popularity, Burma is no longer exclusive to backpackers and culture vultures. Tour operators are making the most of travellers wanting cheaper and exclusive views of the country, so Burma by Bike package tours are becoming bestsellers. With inclusive rides to the lakeside Inthein pagodas, the villages located on the beautiful freshwater Inle lake and the temples of Mandalay (the last royal capital of Burma), this is a great idea for activity-lovers who also want to see this stunning country.
