Winter Sports Festivals
For those of you that love Winter sports, you will probably already know about all of these festivals, but for those of you that are new to the scene, here are our top three favourites. You may think it’s too early to be thinking ahead to 2018 festivals, but a lot of them are selling out fast!
This year running from 17th– 24th March and is being held in Avoriaz France.
The Line-up includes big names such as Chase and Status and Fatboy Slim as well as Mike Skinner, Artful Dodger, Steve Lawler and many more. Après starts around 3pm, with the main events starting at 7pm until roughly 11pm but in true festival style, there will generally be after parties until the early hours.
Tickets for the entire festival or individual events can be booked directly via their website. You can also book the whole holiday including accommodation, flights, transfers and added festival extras such as Bottomless Brunches, VIP experiences and an Igloo Party really easily.
Top tip: Don’t be caught out regarding luggage as this is not automatically included and you will have to select this option within ‘Manage my booking.’
Tiers One and Two are already sold out! So, if you want in, be quick!
All the festival events are 18+ and so please bear that in mind if travelling in a group or family. The skiing and boarding is obviously open to everyone, but if you are wanting to join in the festival activities you will need to be at least 18. If you are travelling a group of more than 8, they do offer discounts, so make sure you look into that too.
European Gay Ski Week or EGSW is the same week 17/03/17-24/03/17 and is hosted by Pure Organisations. It’s Europe’s No. 1 Gay Winter Sports and Music Festival and is held at Les Menuires, Les 3 Vallees, the largest ski area in the world.
This year they will be celebrating their 10th year and are definitely going all out!
With entertainment featuring cabaret, fine dining, pool parties and more, the Après also promises to be spectacular.
Again, you can easily navigate their website and book your holiday through them if required, as well as skiing lessons and clothes or equipment hire. Although you will need to book flights yourself, they do offer transfers from Geneva airport which you can book during the booking process.
Top Tip: You can opt to pay in instalments between two or three monthly payments.
There is a free shuttle bus which can easily get you from resort to resort which is handy when some of the events are held in different places.
They also offer a token service and a lot of the restaurants are taking part (they will display a poster) which means if you pay with your tokens you can get 10% off!
This is probably one of the most famous Winter sports festivals out there, but runs later in the year from 9th – 14th April and is held in Mayrhofen, Austria.
The line-up is incredible as always with acts such as Liam Gallagher, Pendulum, Dizzee Rascal playing live as well as Craig David presenting the Street party and massive DJ acts being announced like Rudimental, DJ EZ, Wilkinson what are you waiting for? More acts will continue to be announced as it gets closer to the event. For a full list of the line up so far click here.
With prices starting from £299 for 5 nights’ accommodation and your wristband, it is very reasonably priced. Although you can’t book your travel exclusively through them, they do provide you with full details on their website including the deal of the week. They do however provide transfers like the other festivals from Munich, Innsbruck and Salzburg with prices ranging from £32 – £39.
Top Tip: A great way of getting to the festival is their SB Road trip which spans 4 countries in 2 days! Most drivers get into the spirit of things by dressing up both themselves and the cars. Starting off in Kent, the rally heads down to Dover to get the ferry across to Calais, with a journey full of fun and games, including a mystery hotel stay and a pit stop party that is a great way to get into the festival mindset.
As fun as all festivals are, for winter sports especially, you need to make sure you have full ski or snowboarding cover through your Travel Insurance. Without specialist cover, you could face expensive bills if something went wrong on the slopes, for example a medical emergency or lost/damaged possessions.
Luckily, you are in the right place as Holidaysafe provides a range of dedicated winter sports travel insurance policies created by skiiers! Full information can be found here.
