World cup ready for “Kick off”

After spending Billions of rand over the last six years The world cup has now arrived for South Africa

Many sceptics believed Fifa’s governing body were mad to award the tournament to the Rainbow Nation in 2004, because of the high crime levels and poor infrastructure. Work on all the ten stadiums were finished on time, whilst Africa now has its first high speed train.

Africa have embraced the tournament, Nelson Mandela stated how the power of football can bring people together, regardless of their colour,language politics,religion or skin colour.

This afternoon is the opening ceremony at soccer City in Johannesburg.The spectacle was being followed by the opening match, between the hosts and Mexico.

Millions of TV viewers around the world watched the Soweto concert, which featured Shakira and the Black Eyed Peas.
It was held at the Orlando stadium, home to the Orlando Pirates, a team that became a symbol of the fight against apartheid.

Some 300,000 foreign fans are expected in South Africa for the tournament.
