Facing injury or illness abroad can be an extremely frightening and expensive experience, which is why travel insurance is such a necessity for anyone planning a trip abroad. As long as you contact our Emergency Medical Team, they can liaise with hospitals to ensure you get the best treatment, and alert our Claim team to help you claim back any costs when you return home.

 What is medical cover?

Most travel insurance policies will include a section called medical emergency cover, which will cover emergency, customary and reasonable medical expenses incurred during your trip, including necessary travel and accommodation or repatriation costs. We cover both in and outpatient treatment in the event that you need to seek medical attention during your holiday.

Am I eligible to make a medical claim and how can I start the process?

If you need to seek medical attention during your trip, we would ask that you contact our Emergency Assistance Team as soon as possible, so they can offer you advice, and perhaps even start discussions with your treating doctor if necessary.

The claims department will then assess each claim based on the individual circumstances, so the best way to start the process is to send us a completed medical claim form. The front page will explain all the information and evidence we need to assess your claim – please complete the form as fully, truthfully and accurately as possible, as this will allow us to process your claim as quickly and efficiently as possible.

Where do I send my completed Claim Form?

Once you have completed your claim form, we recommend that you take copies (just in case), attach all supporting documents and then send recorded delivery to:

How long will it take to process my claim?

  • Turnaround time – 15 – 20 working days from receipt of a fully completed claim form.
  • Phone calls – Wherever possible, call backs will be returned within 48 hours.
  • Letter Response -Incoming correspondence will be responded to within 10 working days of receipt.
