Business Travel on the Rise

Every year thousands of people jet around the world to meet potential new clients, pitch business and liaise with existing customers. With the recession, many companies looked to Skype to save money on international meetings, but now Business travel is on the rise.

The Global Business Travel Association Foundation has recently released their predictions for business travel in 2015, at their annual European conference.

Their research forecasts that business travel in the UK, France, Italy, Spain and Germany will reach over €147 billion by the end of 2014, and over €155 billion by the end of 2015.

Their predictions mean that spending on company air and rail travel plus accommodation and ground transportation (like taxis or hire cars) will increase by nearly 5% year on year by the close of 2014, and then over 6% in 2015.

These positive calculations show that the European economy is starting to stabilise, with more companies open to spending on strengthening old relationships, or creating new ones.

Unfortunately in the first half of the year many European countries seemed to be stunted in their economic growth, but countries like the UK, Sweden and Spain have continued to grow. Interestingly, Germany still remains one of the most robust European economies.
