London attracts more Visitors than Paris
According to the UNWTO World Tourism stats, international tourism reached 1,138 million in 2014, nearly 5% up on 2013. However, this poses an interesting question – where are all these travellers visiting? Euromonitor International has recently conducted research into this very subject, and has revealed the most visited city destinations in the world based on international arrivals.
According to their research, Hong Kong, Singapore and Bangkok took the top three spots. However, more interesting is the fact that London (16.8 million visitors) took the number four spot, beating close rivals Paris (15.2 million visitors) by 1.6 million visitors!
The Top 10 City destinations revealed in the research were;
1. Hong Kong
6. Macau Macau
7. New York City
9. Kuala Lumpur
The research found that Chinese and Russian travellers are having the biggest effect on the list, closely followed by the USA, which experts have labelled as the outbound travel market to watch.
Although Zurich didn’t make the top 10, Switzerland’s largest city boasts one of the highest growth rates in Europe for international travel, with 23.6% increase in arrivals.
Another key destination highlighted by the research was Turkey, which featured heavily in the list. Locations such as Antalya, Istanbul and Artvin all enjoyed an increase in visitors, especially from Russia.
