Staycations on the Rise Following International Safety Fears

According to a recent study conducted by TravelZoo, Brits are putting safety first when booking their 2016 summer holiday, and opting for staycations amid international threats from terrorism.

The research found that two thirds of Brits are now planning their annual holiday based on how safe they will feel in the country, making it the most important factor in their decision making process, rather than focussing on finding the highest temperatures or best holiday deals.

27% of Brits will apparently be opting for staycations this year, making the UK the most popular summer 2016 destination, followed by Spain at 21% and France at 10%. The complete list is;

1 – UK – 27% of travellers
2 – Spain – 21% of travellers
3 – France – 10% of travellers
4 (Joint) – USA – 8% of travellers
4 (Joint) – Italy – 8% of travellers
5 – Greece – 7% of travellers
6 (Joint) – Canada – 5% of travellers
6 (Joint) – Germany – 5% of travellers
6 (Joint) – Portugal – 5% of travellers
7 (Joint) – Australia – 4% of travellers
7 (Joint) – Caribbean – 4% of travellers
7 (Joint) – Cyprus – 4% of travellers

According to a similar study by Late Rooms, the number of bookings for St. Ives in Cornwall was already up 550% on this time last year, and popular resorts in Bridlington and Skegness had also seen around a 250% rise in bookings.

If you’re planning a staycation this year, just remember to invest in quality UK Travel Insurance to protect you and your trip against any unexpected holiday disasters. Many people assume they don’t need insurance for UK trips, but without it you could face expensive bills if you need to cancel your trip, or if your possessions are lost or stolen.
