Snowboard Travel Insurance

Snowboarding is an experience you’ll remember for a lifetime, so it’s little surprise that so many people are taking to the slopes to give it a try. From experienced veterans to total newcomers, Holidaysafe has created a snowboarding insurance package to suit your needs.

While you’ll more than likely come back from your travels without doing any damage, it’s not worth the risk of heading out without a dedicated insurance policy to cover you. Our packages are produced by experts, who understand the intricacies and importance of what’s actually needed when it comes to snowboarding.

Do I need Snowboard Travel Insurance?

While you’ll more than likely come back from your travels without doing any damage, snowboarding still comes with an element of risk. If you are going away and intend to partake in the sport it is important you take out a snowboarding insurance policy, regardless of whether you’re an experienced veteran of the slopes or a total newcomer.

At Holidaysafe, our Snowboarding policy is created by specialists who understand the requirements and risks of the sport. Unlike just regular travel insurance, a snowboarding policy offers cover that you will specifically need for a snowboarding trip.

Snowboarding Insurance Policy Benefits

Our unique snowboarding travel insurance includes:

  • Single trip and Multi trip policies, with a range of cover levels available
  • Winter Sports travel insurance policies
  • Cover for European, UK and Worldwide trips
  • Cover for equipment which is lost or damaged
  • Cover for snowboarding both on and off-piste in resort
  • Discounts for couples
  • The option to waive your excess
  • Additional cover for cancellations, medical emergencies, repatriation, loss of belongings and loss of ID

Is there a better way of coming down a mountain than on a board? We don’t think so. Regardless of whether your route down is on or off-piste (in resort), Holidaysafe has you covered so you can relax and enjoy yourself.

Snowboarding Tips for Beginners

Is it your first time heading out on the slopes with a snowboard beneath you? New challenges are daunting but rewarding. If you’re attempting to snowboard for the first time, make sure to follow the snippets of advice we’re offering:

  • Get the right clothing – This doesn’t just mean finding protective gear to keep you safe. It extends to ensuring you’re kitted out in clothing which fulfils the simple purpose of actually keeping you warm. You’ll need a specially designed snowboard jacket and set of trousers. These will prevent you from getting wet (and as such, cold) while on the slopes.
  • Use protective gear – As eluded to above, wearing appropriate protective gear is incredibly important. A helmet is arguably the most vital piece of equipment you can purchase, as it serves to keep your head safe in the event of a tumble. This could save you a trip to the hospital, and potentially even prevent a severe long-term injury.
  • Learn how to fall – It sounds counter-productive, but it’s a good idea to learn how to properly fall. The simple fact of the matter is you’re likely to crash a lot when you’re first starting out. The key here is to avoid putting your hands out in front of you to prevent a collision. You could end up with a broken wrist. Instead, cross your arms over your chest and let gravity do the work.
  • Understand piste symbols – Make sure you don’t challenge yourself too much and stick to the piste which is best suited to your skill level. As a rough guide, the following colour system generally applies to slopes across the world:
  • Green – Easiest for beginners, these are generally quite flat.
  • Blue – Steeper options, but still manageable for people with less experience.
  • Red (North America) – In parts of Europe red pistes don’t exist (skipping straight from blue to black). Most commonly, these are steep moguls.
  • Black – The hardest slopes, black pistes are bumpy and best reserved for experienced snowboarders

Make sure to keep these tips in mind when you next take to the snow. They’ll make your first foray into the discipline considerably easier.

Benefits of Snowboard Insurance

You’ll experience a number of benefits when you take out insurance for your next snowboarding trip. Some of the most important include:

  • Cancellation cover – Sometimes plans fall through. If this is out of your control, and you’ve already pre-paid for the likes of accommodation or transport hire, you’ll potentially be able to claim it back (or at least some of it) with a travel insurance policy in place. It’s important to check your policy details first, and not just assume you’ll be covered.
  • Loss of possessions – If something goes missing and it wasn’t your fault, there’s a good chance you’ll be able to claim for some costs. At the same time, if you leave something lying around and it goes missing, you more than likely won’t be covered.
  • Accidents – Heaven forbid it should, but if something were to result in you getting accidentally injured, you’ll be covered for any additional costs which you might experience at a public medical facility. Given the incredibly high price of hospital stays in some countries, snowboard insurance is effectively a must-have for anyone taking to the slopes.
  • Legal advice – It’s unlikely you have a wealth of knowledge when it comes to the legal connotations of mishaps while snowboarding. As such, the addition of an inclusive legal cover is a godsend for many. This guarantees people are always provided with an additional level of protection – which might otherwise cost them hundreds, if not thousands.

Snowboarding safety rules

Snowboarding and skiing holidays are fantastic for the whole family, but staying safe on the slopes should always be considered. It’s important to remember a few key rules whilst on the slopes:

  • As a snowboarder you face sideways when travelling down the slopes, so a blind spot is created behind you. It’s important to keep aware of your surroundings especially when making a heel edge turn.
  • Keeping within the boundary limits of the slopes is important.
  • Always take to the slopes with a friend, you’ll always have someone keeping an eye on you should you get into trouble.
  • Follow the etiquette of the slopes, those in front and below you have right of way.
  • Know your limits, if you’re a beginner, make sure you’re comfortable on the beginner slopes before moving onto more difficult runs.
