Alleged Disease Outbreak in Spain
Irwin Mitchell, the well know law firm, are currently representing a group of British travellers who claim to have contracted Legionnaires’ disease whilst staying in Ibiza.
The holiday makers were all staying at a certain apartment complex in Santa Eulalia in September 2014 when they contracted the potentially fatal disease.
Mr and Mrs Cox had travelled to the complex with his Sister and her partner for a two week holiday in the sun. The group were near the end of their trip and preparing to return home to Devon when Mr Cox started having sever gastric symptoms and shortness of breath.
Alarmed by his sudden illness, Mr Cox visited his GP as soon as he returned home, and was quickly diagnosed with the serious illness and admitted to hospital. He spent 5 days in hospital attached to an IV and was unable to work for five weeks.
After Mr Cox and his sister’s partner both fell ill whilst at the resort, they soon found other people with very similar complaints. Their most awful discover was Lynne Balaam from Cardiff, who had also stayed at the complex and had since died from Legionnaires disease.
The accommodation was subsequently closed, and guests moved to alternative lodgings. Irwin Mitchell are now pursuing claims for the victims, but interestingly the hotel has previously received a Certificate of Excellence from Trip Advisor.
These really terrible and tragic stories just show that disaster can strike at any time during a trip, and so it is absolutely vital that you purchase quality travel insurance to protect you against any unforeseen medical costs.
