Safest Destinations for your next City Break
Nobody wants to experience a holiday disaster, but how do you ensure your location of choice is safe to visit? The news is full of negative stories which can easily distort the true nature of a destination – especially a city. To help anyone trying to plan a trip, the Post Office recently conducted a survey of over 2,000 Brits to get their honest feedback on 42 city break destinations around the world.
If you’re planning a staycation York was voted the safest UK city, with around 70% of respondents rating it low on risk but high on trip satisfaction. York was closely followed by Bath and Edinburgh, which both scored well amongst reviewers.
According to the survey, the safest overseas destinations are Venice and Vienna, both scoring nearly 60% on satisfaction and low on risk. Furthermore, although visitor numbers were fewer, no one reported having any problems when visiting Riga, Stockholm or Singapore.
However, 10% of travellers did report facing problems in cities such as Athens and Hong Kong, but only 11% thought that Athens was a dangerous destination, and only 15% believed Hong Kong to be a high risk destination.
Interestingly, the survey also found that the ‘risk’ perceived by many travellers in certain destinations did not match reality. For example, Miami and Moscow were rated as high risk destinations by many, but none of the respondents who had visited those cities had actually faced problems.
