UK Holidays On The Up
According to official figures released by Visit Britain, the UK welcomed over 30 million international visitors in 2013, a 6% increase from 2012. In facts, all forms of travel to the UK saw a healthy increase, including business travel and holiday travel, both of which increased 7% from the previous year.
The figures showed that travellers from around the world have been lured the UK, because our tiny island offers so much diversity. Whether you want a spa weekend, a historical sightseeing trip, a cultural trip to one of the fashion and art capitals of the world, or a holiday packed full of outdoor activities, Britain has something to offer.
This diversity is proven by the areas which have shown the most growth, including Scotland, Wales and London – all of which offer a mix of modernity and history, the metropolitan and rural, plus relaxing and invigorating.
With international visitors flocking to the UK to experience a taste of British, it really does beg the question – why go anywhere else? We may not have the best weather, but the UK really is a fantastic place for a staycation – there is simply so much to explore and do, plus without the expense of flights you can afford to spend a little bit more for a luxury break.
Just remember, when planning a staycation you shouldn’t forget travel insurance. Many people only consider insurance for trips abroad, however if your UK break is pre-booked and three days or more in duration, travel insurance can step in if you have a holiday disaster. For example cancellation costs, if you are forced to cut your trip short and return home, and in case your possessions are lost, stolen or damaged.
