Honesty Is The Best Travel Insurance Policy
Having a pre-existing medical condition can often prevent people from travelling due to the mental or physical demand that travelling takes on them, but some people with pre-existing medical conditions are often restricted with their holiday and travel options due to the amount it costs them to get travel insurance – not to mention the hassle that often comes with it. As a result, many people with medical conditions either choose not to declare their medical situation or forgo travel insurance altogether.
Recent travel insurance research has shown that one in ten holidaymakers have travelled without travel insurance over the past two years, whilst a sizeable minority (one in 20) have said that they failed to declare their personal medical condition to the insurer in a bid to cut costs.
Kelly Ostler-Coyle, a spokeswoman for the Association of British Insurers says that honesty IS the best policy: “When you buy cover you need to disclose all of the relevant details. Answer all questions asked by the insurer honestly and to the best of your knowledge.”
Those who decide not to declare relevant and important medical conditions in order to reduce the cost of insurance for their holiday run the risk of making their whole policy void when trying to make a claim later on. By choosing not to disclose a pre-existing condition that you knew about, you’re running the risk of not being able to claim for an emergency situation which could cost you hundreds or thousands of pounds in medical expenses – a false economy.
