Jilted Bride Turned Heartbreak into an Inspiring Adventure
With just a few months before the big day, most brides would be preparing for their hen parties and finalising details, but for Katy Collins this time became a heart-breaking nightmare, when her fiancé (and university sweetheart) called off their wedding just three months before the £20,000 ceremony.
Miss Colins from Formby was understandably devastated when her relationship ended, but she decided to turn her heartbreak into the catalyst for something positive, by planning the trip of a life time. The budding adventurer quit her job as a Manchester Airport public relations worker, sold her car and set off on the journey which has already taken her to Thailand, India, Nepal, France and South America.
Nicknamed ‘the backpacking Bridget Jones, Colins started a blog to document her travels (including taking part in the Holi Festival in India, climbing volcanoes in Chile and sleeping in the Jungle in Thailand), which proved so popular that she’s secured a six-book publishing deal as part of a ‘Lonely Hearts Travel Club’ series.
Speaking to Holly and Phil on This Morning recently, Miss Colins confided that her fiancé actually did her a big ‘favour’ by calling off their nuptials, as she’s now had so many amazing experiences. She also went on to say that she will be coming back to the UK, but not before she’s ticked some more items off her bucket list.
Colins just shows that it’s never too late to plan that once in a lifetime trip – you just need the right timing and lots of planning to get that epic trip right.
