Slopes of Geneva Closer for Eurostar Users
If you’re choosing to head to the Swiss slopes this winter via Eurostar, then you’ll currently have to change stations at Paris and head to Lyon. During the peak season, this transfer can take up to an hour before you head off to Geneva.
From December of this year, Eurostar passengers will have a much easier journey if they’re intending on heading to the Swiss slopes, as Eurostar are improving their service to change at Lille instead of the busy central Parisian station – allowing passengers to only wait a maximum of thirty minutes as opposed to the usual hour.
The new service follows survey results which has shown Geneva is one of the most popular destinations in Europe for travellers from the UK.
Geneva isn’t just famous for its winter sports holiday facilities – the city has a rich and wealthy history thanks to rebellions and revolutions held within the Genevan boundaries, but it’s the city’s relationship with the world’s super-rich which has blown it into the upper echelons of the travel industry.
The new route will also offer passengers easier access to other Swiss cities including Aigle, Martigny, Sion, Sierre, Visp and Brig – all home to ski facilities and accommodation.
Nick Mercer, the commercial director for Eurostar said:
“Our research shows a real appetite for a more civilised way to reach popular European destinations, and this new connecting service offers easy access for customers looking for a city break in Geneva, or to reach some of the most spectacular ski resorts in Europe. With city-centre to city-centre travel and a generous baggage allowance, this new offer proposes an attractive alternative to flying.”
Tickets for this new service go on sale on Thursday, and the inaugural journey will hit the tracks on the 14th December. Additional routes look set to be added to the Eurostar route system, with services being expanded to Lyon, Marseille and Amsterdam in the not-too-distant future.
