All of our travel insurance offerings at holidaysafe.co.uk include an option for european travel. European travel insurance is less risky than worldwide travel insurance and as such European travel insurance is cheaper than Worldwide travel insurance.

Some people believe that as they are travelling within Europe they do not need travel insurance. Mostly this belief is held because the think the EHIC card will insure them. This is unfortunatley a mis-conception as the EHIC card (which used to be the E111) only covers a proportionate amount of your medical costs whilst in hospital. It does not cover repatriation (getting you home in an emergency) or things such as baggage, money, travel delay, cancellation, etc. It also does not provide you with a 24 hour emergency helpline in the event of problems.

So our advice is to carry with you an EHIC card when travelling in Europe, but also remember that travel insurance is necersary.
