Top Running Destinations

We know how obsessive the feeling of running can become once you get into it:

‘Don’t ask me why I run, ask yourself why you don’t’.

It doesn’t matter how far or how fast you run, just getting out either on your own or with a buddy and pounding the pavement is the best feeling!

We have compiled our favourite destinations to travel to and head out for a scenery rich run.

The Highlands

Offering a luxury experience as well as amazing running routes, Running the Highlands offer the best of both worlds. The option of Running holidays, tours or training weekends for runners of all abilities, taking place in the beautiful Scottish Highlands… what more could you ask for?

Scottish Highlands
Situated in the Cairngorms National Park and only 50 miles from Aberdeen, it’s not hard to get to.

They do packages that include your accommodation as well as food in most cases, with the option to add sports massages and personal training sessions too.

They start from around £360 and vary on route and the tour, with flights only 1.5 hours averaging about £150 return.

Kenya

We know this is a bit further afield… but the scenery, culture and experience make it so worth it!

The Kenya Experience, run by Train in Kenya, offer multiple tours that are open to multiple abilities.

Kenya
Starting from £1,000 including full board accommodation, a swimming pool, a gym, training and coaching and much more!

Flights here cost around £650 and take 8.5 hours on a non-stop flight.

You will get the opportunity to train with Kenyan runners, as well as learning the ‘Kenyan Way’ from the coaches.

Why not make it into the African holiday of a lifetime and merge it with a safari trip?

The Alps

Now, the Alps is obviously full of jaw dropping scenery but there are also a lot of hills, so be prepared for that. If hills aren’t your thing, this is probably not the running holiday for you!

Run the Alps organise many different tours and do specify that everyone can run at their own pace.

They have the option of guided, self-guided and custom tours available. The guided tours include one or two running guides per group who can speak the local language, know the customers and know the area in depth.

Their most popular trip is the Tour Mont-Blanc Run which starts in Geneva and lasts for 10 days. Costing $3,595 per person it is steep, but you have accommodation, breakfast, trail snacks, dinners, guided daily runs, transfers and luggage transfers included in that. So, you would only need to find flights which are 1.5 hours from the UK and cost about £75.

Spain

Did someone say paella? We love Spain as a destination, so we’re even happier to have found Run in the Sun, which specialises in fully supported running holidays whether that is off road, trial running or up a mountain.

The company itself are open 365 days of the year, based in Costa Blanca and is very popular with solo travellers.

Prices vary depending on your requirements, but for 5 nights half board (pro rata) it is £500pp, and with flights just over 2 hours and averaging £230 for a return it is one of the cheaper options.

Portugal

Now, we know this is cheating slightly having two in neighbouring countries but we couldn’t not tell you about 2:09 Events.

This company really seem to cater for the customer with so many extras included such as car hire, massages and a celebration BBQ.

Starting out with a welcome dinner, giving you chance to meet the rest of your fellow participants as well as the experts and company directors.

Apartments start from £519 for the 7-night option and with the rest included comes out to about £740 roughly with a deposit of just £200.
